The assignment was to create a character based on a car from a selection offered to us by Shelley Page of Dreamworks. For the car I selected, the Honda Puyo, the character had to be inspired by a retro sci-fi look.

I decided pretty quickly that the driver of this car would be some sort of tight-laced office worker, so I got to work deciding how he would look.

At this stage, I submitted the work for feedback from Shelley as was recommended to produce a character expressions sheet and some accessories for Nertin. I provided the following character description:
Nertin Doint, 38 years old, lives in 22nd-Century London, where technology has boomed. But the threat of super viruses has boomed too, so that when they are not in their atmospherically controlled buildings or cars, citizens must wear protective bubble headgear to ensure they're not breathing in the contaminated air of the outside world (and though some say this fear is caused by the false propaganda of world governments, Nertin would be the last to question it). He's happy in his job as a tax inspector, which often gets him out of the office and on the road in his Honda Puyo, snooping around in the places that people don't want him to look. He gets quite a kick from inspiring nervous twitches and sweaty palms when he steps into a building, which makes a nice change from the utter lack of respect his maths-champion status garnered him back in school.
